Teacher Mini-Grant Update: GES Reading Olympics

"Mrs. Amand and I are pleased to share that our GES Reading Olympics Team earned a first place ribbon at the Reading Olympics competition!

"The students and Mrs. Amand and I would like to thank the KASD Ed Foundation for providing us with everything we needed to make this event a success.  We were able to purchase copies of all of the books on the reading list.

"Students were required to read and take notes on at least 3 books from the book list to participate in the competition.  This was a great lesson for students on working independently and collaboratively without daily teacher guidance, managing their time, and meeting expectations and deadlines.  Since many of our team members were 5th graders, we hope this experience serves them well in the transition to middle school!

"The students voted on a team name:  Cougar Readers = Cougar Leaders.  We were able to use our KASD Ed Foundation mini grant funds to purchase T-shirts with our team name and logo.

"Not only did they perform well enough to earn the first place ribbon, but they also demonstrated outstanding leadership, collaboration, and sportsmanship.  Every single team member contributed answers.

"Thank you again for the generous contributions that allowed us to run a Reading Olympics Team at GES for the second year in a row.  The students learned so much from that first experience and grew their skills in many areas from year one to year two.  We appreciate everyone at the KASD Ed Foundation for helping to make this happen for our students!
