In September, Kutztown Area High School was named a National Blue Ribbon School, one of only two public high schools in Pennsylvania to win this award. The National Blue Ribbon Program honors and brings attention to American schools for their overall academic excellence. A Blue Ribbon flag flying over your school is a symbol of quality recognized by everyone from parents to policy-makers in thousands of communities across the country.
Principal Barry Flicker commented, “I am grateful for this recognition and honored to be part of a school community that supports quality education and continuous support of the growth of every student. I have a loyal respect for the rich tradition that is Kutztown.”
School Guidance Counselor Andrew Brett (KASDEF Board Member & 2017 Distinguished Alumni, KAHS Class of 1987), was a key member of the award application team. He stated that, “KAHS is the product of a community committed to education, hard work, and service. With the support of a strong, loyal alumni base, Kutztown’s faculty strives to nurture the whole student, offering all students academic, athletic, and artistic opportunities.”
KAHS Faculty and Administration attended the virtual National Blue Ribbon Awards Ceremony with the US Department Of Education on November 12th and 13th of 2020. In opening remarks, Secretary of Education, Betsy DeVos, chose to highlight two schools from last year’s 367 recipients, and one of them was Kutztown! It was exciting to hear the Kutztown Area High School called out on a national stage for outstanding progress in career Pathways and Dual Enrollment efforts! (The KASD Education Foundation’s “Support-A-Scholar” program makes Dual Enrollment an affordable option for KAHS students.)
The KASD Education Foundation extends our congratulations to Kutztown students, faculty and administration, teachers and parents, alumni, and the community at large, on winning this national recognition!
As the Education Foundation begins a year-long celebration of our 20th year, please consider making a donation of $20 or any multiple thereof, helping us to continue our support of all schools within the Kutztown School District in their ongoing pursuit of excellence. Until 12/31/2020, all donations up to a total of $2,020 will be matched.
