The KASD Education Foundation announces the addition of a new board member, Mrs. Katherine Metrick. Mrs. Metrick is no stranger to Kutztown, having been KASD’s Superintendent from 2012 to 2016, during which time she also participated in many of Kutztown’s School District, University, and community events. Mrs. Metrick was a founder of Kutztown Strong in 2014 and remains active as an advisor and board member in that organization. Most recently, KASD Ed Foundation donors will remember Katherine as one of the co-chairs of the Cougar Pride Capital Campaign.
Mrs. Metrick earned a Bachelor of Science from The Pennsylvania State University in Environmental Resource Management and obtained her Principal Certificate and MS in Educational Administration from Temple University. She is a Doctoral Candidate in Curriculum, Instruction & Staff Development at Widener University. Mrs. Metrick taught a large variety of subjects during her career, including biology, anatomy, physiology, earth science, environmental science, applied chemistry, applied physics, and food science. She held a variety of positions during her 28 years as an educator, during which she served as a high school teacher, science department chair, assistant principal, director of curriculum, assistant superintendent, and superintendent. She also provided professional development on a national level.
The KASD Education Foundation welcomes Mrs. Metrick as the first non-KAHS alumnus to be invited to join our Board of Directors. We all look forward to working with her in a new role as we continue to expand the Foundation’s efforts to achieve our mission : “To enhance educational opportunities in the district’s schools and communities, and to recognize the superior achievements of the district’s students and alumni.”
