Three KAHS alumni, basketball standouts & Cougar Tale members:
Ron Siegfried (Class of ’63), Dick Braucher (Class of ’65), and Herm Winkler (Class of ’62).
The Blue & White Award was created in 2005. It is a foundation-managed award which was initially and continuously funded by The Cougar Tale and others, to recognize a senior who positively represents Kutztown Area High School. You too may help to support this award! Simply note “Blue & White Award” in the memo line of a future contribution to the Kutztown Area School District Education Foundation!
The Cougar Tale was formed in 1974. Although they were founded as a club composed of former KAHS basketball players, they quickly broadened their membership to include parents, cheerleaders, and the fans of any KASD sport, i.e., the Kutztown Community at large. The group sought “to develop outstanding contributing citizens and to support each other in times of need.”
During the past 45 years, The Cougar Tale has supported the KAHS basketball program in various ways, providing instruction, donating to the Booster Club and conducting an annual “Halftime Foul Shootout” contest. They hold a golf tournament each September as their annual fund-raiser.
Several members of The Cougar Tale have been honored by another well-known local organization, the KAHS Sports Hall of Fame. Hall of Fame honorees are pictured in a special showcase in the hallway outside of John Silan Gymnasium. The successful request to re-name the KAHS gym originated with loyal members of The Cougar Tale.
