Over 25 families have developed KASD Ed Foundation scholarships in memory of their loved ones. This year, the Ron Druckenmiller Family created an annual award for “a graduating senior men’s basketball player who demonstrates selfless leadership and challenges himself and others to be the best they can be on and off the court.” The Education Foundation thanks Ron’s wife Judy, brothers Tom & Jay, son Dean, and daughter Cheryl, for their thoughtful donation in memory of Ronald F. Druckenmiller.
Mr. Druckenmiller was a standout in Kutztown basketball, leading his team in scoring in both his junior and senior year. He was first team All Berks County and Honorable Mention 3rd Team All State in his senior season. Kutztown won the Division and Berks County titles in Ron’s junior year, 1955. His college basketball career at Muhlenberg was similarly decorated. Ron was drafted by the Hazelton Hawks of the Eastern Professional Basketball League, but was drafted by the U.S. Army instead, where he played ball for the Little Blue Team who won the Southern Area Command Championship.
Ron supported the Kutztown community and basketball for the rest of his life. He was inducted into the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame in 2007, in addition to being inducted into the Berks County, Muhlenberg College, and Kutztown High School Sports Halls of Fame. Ron was a member of the Cougar Tale, the KAHS Hall of Fame Committee, and the KASD Education Foundation Board.
