The Kutztown Area School District Education Foundation Board of Directors announced the 2023 Distinguished Alumni of the year, Sandra K. Green, Kutztown Area High School class of 1972. Born on a farm in Maxatawny Township, Sandra “Sandy” Green is a lifelong resident of the Kutztown area. After graduation Sandy worked in the administrative offices of the Brandywine and Kutztown Area School Districts for several years. She credits these employments, enabling her to establish an incredible network of people, in her future successes.
In the early 1990s, Sandy pursued her passion in the travel industry. She attended Reading Area Community College and the Institute of Travel Agents and began working for Kutztown’s own, Bieber Tourways. In 1994, Sandy began working as a travel agent at Berkleigh Travel Services in Kutztown and is currently manager.
In 2002, Sandy began volunteering with Kutztown Community Partnership (KCP), a community-driven non-profit organization dedicated to the economic revitalization and preservation of Kutztown. In 2005, Sandy Green was elected mayor of the Borough of Kutztown, the first female to hold that position. During her 12-year tenure, the borough achieved Main Street status with the Pennsylvania Downtown Center and the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development.
She also served on the board of the Pennsylvania Municipal League and as a trustee on the Pennsylvania Local Government Investment Trust Board. Sandy is currently employed by Kutztown Community Partnership, hired in 2018 after her tenure as mayor. She is also the Community Liaison and Government Relations Assistant for Kutztown University (KU). She served on the KU Community Relations Advisory Board, the KU Community Engagement Board, and the KU Arts Society Board. In December 2017, she received the Kutztown University Presidential Medal for bringing honor and distinction to the University and for serving as an example for students and alumni.
Sandy has been an active member in numerous local community organizations including the Greater Reading Chamber Alliance, the Northeast Berks Chamber of Commerce, the Kutztown Historical Society, the Town and Gown Advisory Board, and the Kutztown Folk Festival Marketing Committee. Sandy was recently appointed to the Board of Directors for Communities in Schools of Eastern Pennsylvania.
Sandra Green will be honored at the Annual Foundation Reception held at Setter Ridge Vineyards on Wednesday, May 24, 2023, from 5pm to 7pm. Sandy will deliver the commencement address to the Kutztown Area High School graduating class of 2023 on Thursday, May 25, 2023.
